AdSense – how to become a publisher and make money from advertising?

The methods of monetising your website don’t end with acquiring leads for your online shop and affiliates. If you look at your website as an advertising space, another opportunity opens up for you – joining the Google AdSense programme. What is this? Can anyone become an AdSense publisher? What do earnings depend on in Google AdSense and what are the billing models in this system?

Google Adsense – what is it?

Google AdSense is a simple advertising system, linked to Google Ads, through which website owners, i.e. publishers, earn money from ads displayed on their website. These can be video, text or image ads, but they all have one thing in common – the right context. Each AdSense online advertising is tailored to the general theme of the domain, but also to the specific subpage.

Google AdSense – requirements for publishers

Almost anyone can join Google AdSense, but simply joining the programme and providing advertising space does not yet guarantee a profit.

The criteria that count are site traffic and subject matter.

The content on a candidate website is carefully checked and if your content marketing strategy does not comply with Google’s rules, you will not be able to join the programme.

This particularly applies to material that is deemed to be:

  • attempting to deceive or mislead,
  • hate speech,
  • cruelty to animals,
  • breaking the law,
  • source of dangerous software,
  • promotion of sexual services,
  • international matrimonial services.

Even if your website complies with Google’s policy, without the right number of visitors to your site, you can forget about earning money from displaying ads with Google Ads.

What kind of traffic are we talking about? The Google AdSense Earnings Calculator provides some information, with a minimum monthly number of impressions starting at 50,000.

Google AdSense – available billing models

Google AdSense from the advertiser’s point of view works on an auction basis. This means that your website will display the ad whose sender offers the highest bid. Depending on the type of online content, advertisers settle in a CPE (cost per engagement) or CPM (cost per millie) model.

In the first case, you only get paid if the user clicks on the ad.

In the second – you will be billed every 1,000 impressions (i.e. earnings will depend on how many users see the ad).

Google AdSense – possible earnings

How much money can you earn from the Google AdSense programme?

A lot depends on the theme of your website and how many users visit it per month.

For an estimate of your future earnings, you can check the Revenue Calculator. For example, a publisher of a site in the “home and garden” category, with a number of impressions of around 100,000 per month can earn around $13 per year.

Google AdSense and YouTube

As part of Google AdSense, you can also make money by running a YouTube channel. In this case, the sources of income are:

  • advertising revenue (video, display or overlay),
  • channel support, i.e. contributions from viewers,
  • product shelf – selling gadgets related to the channel,
  • superchat and superstickers – contributions from fans whose posts are highlighted,
  • youTube premium revenue.

AdSense – is it worth it?

It costs nothing to join the Google AdSense programme. For that, you can be sure to receive the money you earn. Although it is unlikely to be a large amount per year (even for popular sites), you can always spend it on, for example, annual domain renewal or server maintenance.
